My personal email inbox was a mess ! Over the years all and sundry companies had picked up my email address to the extent that I was receiving @ 60-80 emails a day. If I didn’t check the emails for a few days you can imagine the time it took to review, read, delete. At the end of a busy week I often ended up mass deleting 25 at a time just to clear the hundreds in my inbox.
A couple of weeks ago I started unsubscribing to all the companies I wasn’t interested in. Today things are good. I receive @ 10-15 emails a day from the brands I’m interested in. It takes me a fraction of the time to check my mails. I also end up reading and acting on emails rather than skimming and deleting, meaning it’s a win win for me and the companies I’m most interested in.
With brands and people increasingly using “always on”, lower cost digital comms (email, social media, mobile) there’s obviously a temptation for marketers to crash reasonable contact rules and clog up these “personal” channels in pursuit of sales and attention. If we do, we’ll only turn off customers to our brands, the medium and the sales effectiveness of the channel. Be relevant. Quality not quantity.
